The Golden Thread

The Golden Thread is a year-long, live client project for Leith Theatre. The theatre can almost be seen as a symbol of Leith, its long life perfectly mirroring the "persevere" motto of the area, but the Theatre is currently undergoing restoration and was looking to discover what a modern theatre could be.

After considering the existing building, I concluded that the theatre would be a strong, beautiful space without many interventions, and instead focused on what new features an extension could bring to the space. Here, I envisioned a "Pipeline to the Arts", where every element of theatre, including education and manufacture, was stitched into the performance spaces of the existing building.
