The Golden Thread

The Golden Thread is a year-long, live client project for Leith Theatre. The theatre can almost be seen as a symbol of Leith, its long life perfectly mirroring its “Persevere” motto. During restoration, the clients were looking to explore how they can ensure that the theatre continues to be significant for the community. 
After considering the existing building, it became clear that with careful restoration, the existing building was still well suited as a theatre. Instead, The Golden Thread focused on what new features an extension could bring to the venue - a "Pipeline to the Arts", where every element of theatre, from education and to set-production, was stitched alongside the performance spaces of the existing building.
