ABOUT
Hi, I'm Chloe. I'm originally from Hampshire, studied at the University of Strathclyde, and am now working as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant in Birmingham.
Throughout this website, there is a recurring rejection of design and architectural practice as exclusively available to those trained through formal routes. Instead, my work explores the capacity of the everyday citizen to play a part in constructing the built environment. Though I didn't see the connection at the time, the first instance of this was during my second-year project, "The Sail Space", where the sweeping roofline was constructed of hyperbolic paraboloids; a series of straight timbers interwoven to form a curve. After recognising that the sailing club had self-built their first extension, I felt it was pivotal to include them in the building's new construction chapter.
Hopefully, the culmination of this interest needs no explanation. "Calton; In Common" was my attempt to give back to the neighbourhood I had called home for 5 years, working with the local community to understand what their dreams for the future of the area look like.
Outside of architecture, I can either be found helping out with the local Cub Scout pack or on a long rural walk, usually with a dog to keep me company!
