Children Built This City
Year 3 Semester 1 - 2022
Semester 1 of Third Year is a residential project, where we were tasked with designing a housing scheme just off of High Street, and next to Strathclyde's campus.
To me, children were the key to a successful scheme.
When imagining a strong community, I picture active, engaging spaces where neighbours know and support one another.
Key barriers to this are digital communication methods, fast-paced lifestyles, and closed, self-centred living that lessens dependence on others nearby.
Children don’t face these barriers in the same way. They don’t text to catch up or rush from one task to another. They call out to the children across the street or knock on the neighbour’s front door to ask for their ball back. Children easily pass other people’s private thresholds, not seeing its signifcance through an adult’s experienced eye.
